For SD girl. Made with pink gingham with dragonfly details, although those are a bit difficult to use in doll size. Snaps up the back. Experimental/boredom-induced, so. XD;;

Cosplay? Chi!

Usually I don't post photos of commission work, but I just feel the insatiable need to show this one off, mostly because it was so much fun to make. @___@ A customer on DoA commissioned me for two Chi outfits, and although they're complicated as can be, they've been really, REALLY fun to make and put on Lilly. Methinks I'll copy Chobits (and other CLAMP-y goodness) more often. XD

This is the first completed outfit - the second I'm still working on. Need to do the collar, headband, and... something else I forget. *headdesk*

Yeah, crappy crappy photos, but ignore the ghetto-ness przkthx. x_X;

The set is a dress, tiered skirt, bow headdress, choker, lace panties (not pictured, but necessary for Chi-ness), fishnet thigh-highs, and pink boot covers. I drafted all the patterns myself, and made everything except for the shoes and the earrings. ISH GOOD TIMES. XD

Commissions aside, I'll be clearing out the doll drawer hardcore sometime soon because I've been offered a position to teach English in Tokyo. I need to get rid of as much stuff as possible as fast as possible. x_X;; This includes doll stuff, non-doll stuff, etc. But I'll post any doll-related sales/giveaways here!! I'm seriously gonna just give crap away, since I can't seem to sell it, but my dolls never wear it. (I just make stuff. It's like an impulse.)

But no Chi-y goodness will be given away. Oh no. All of that is gonna be makin' me some spare change. XD

Finally, FINALLY I got Ivrenel out for a decent photo session!! That is to say, winter finally seems to have realized that we no longer want it here and sulked off to wherever it goes this time of year. (Argentina? o_O; ) Unfortunately, because winter was so late in leaving, there was hardly anything growing/in bloom, so I'll have to take her out again once our cherry and dogwood trees start sprouting. Because Ivrenel is the Queen.

Speaking of Queenliness, I hunkered down and made her a diadem. ^___^ I still want one that's a bit more sturdy (mine is beads and thread and ribbon *headdesk* ), but it's a start.

The latest creation to be vomited from my sewing machine. I'll definitely be selling it, since Lilly has about 3 school uniforms at this point. >_>;; (And I can make another one if I have any massive regrets. XD) I'm thinking to start at about $35...? The set comes with a skirt, blouse, sweater, necktie, socks and panties. (Because every schoolgirl needs cute white panties. @_@)

Also, is there anyone on the kawaikochan flist who can make jewelry? So I built a really ghetto light box and went nuts taking photos of Mr. Mickey. For some reason he's my favourite lately - probably because the minis are so easy to pose and drag around everywhere? XD; I also made him a really gay jacket. I was going to sell it, but I think he's attached to the jacket and I would have to peel it off his cold, dead, rotting zombie skin to get at it.

Meh, whatever, I'll make another one. XD Anyways.

Bonus!! My ghetto-ass lighting setup. Which isn't really that ghetto since my "light box" is the only thing that's not at least high-quality amateur grade - those be real photo flood lamps with daylight controlled bulbs that my dad (who is as hardcore about cameras and photography as I am about the dollies etc) had lying around. Yup. LYING AROUND. Win.

Duct tape, tissue paper, old photo stuff from the 70s, and fun with fabric. (And the cel in the background is Jadeite running from the airplane in his last episode of Sailor Moon. XD) That's what DREAMS are made of.

Two wa-loli outfits I made out of needing something to do with the piles of kona bay yukata fabric I impulse bought at Fabricland. XD; The blue one is SD, the black/red one is MSD. Each comes with a fluffy underskirt/petticoat, but the black petticoat for the MSD one is actually really loose so if you want I'll take it in for ya. (Lilly was borrowing it for a bit.) Both will probably fit either size, but the blue was made for SD and the black was made for MSD, so.

I'm looking for at least $50 each, because they took me forever to make and the fabric isn't cheap. Bartering/bargaining is welcome, but I won't go below $40.

There has been no update as to the whereabouts of Galadriel (my '05 Juri from the previous f-locked post) on the Canada Post site since she was shipped on Tuesday. The tracking number works and all, but the last time stamp is on 2/27 at River-something-or-other in New Brunswick. I can't find the tracking number anywhere with USPS. T_T I don't mind waiting for the full 8 business days if necessary, but I'd still like to know where she is! I want my elfy darling! ;____;

So I was kinda feeling the buyer's remorse a little, and then I got paid today. XD WTF ever. I WANTS MY JURI. >O

In other news, my cat keeps trying to eat/steal my dolls' fur wigs. >_>;; THEY ARE NOT FOR KITTY. Good thing they're synthetic. I shudder to think what happens with cats and mohair wigs.

Candy Cane Christmas

So instead of cramming for my history final tomorrow (AHAHAHAHAHA) I designed Lilly's 2006 Christmas dress. As to whether or not it will be done by Christmas is anyone's guess, but I at least wanted to get the design out of my head, and at this point I don't think I'll be able to fully comprehend the difference between all the Ptolemies. T_T

Okay, so the art is really bad, but I wasn't out to draw a masterpiece illustration, just to layout the outfit and the colours I wanted to use. I found this pink and white striped candy-ish stuff at Fabricland on super-clearance back in like... October? And have used some of it for various projects, but I believe I have enough left for an SD-sized Alice-type dress. (If I don't I can just hack apart the failed MSD skirt I made with it. XD) The lace on the bottom of the dress will actually be this pretty threadable lace that I used on the Red Dress of Doom, I just didn't draw it in because yeah, lazy. ^_^; The pinafore is from a... pattern in one of the Gothic Lolita bibles... >_>; Mam, I think? And the candy cane will be embroidered on. The red bow on the chest is part of the pinafore.

Okay, so the only things keeping it Christmas-y are the red bows and the candy cane. >_>; But frankly, I don't care.

I probably won't be able to get started on this until Christmas Eve. x_X; Oh well, I'll have a project to do while I wait for everyone to do the church thing and all that nonsense.

In other news, Mickey has a lovely new face and will be back soon. ^____^ Yaaaaay! Lilly has a little brother to pummel the crap out of again!

Also, I really want a MiniFee ShuShu. She'll be Astrid, Mickey's best friend. :3

Poor Mickey... he'll be the lone Dream of Doll in a pile of LUTS until I'm done collecting my main four (halfway there!) and see about obtaining Silas (Dollshe Saint) and an adorable tiny (want a Yo-SD Suzuna, but hah, like that's ever gonna happen =P). Oh well, he can show off his mad standing capabilities while Lilly, Gulliver and Astrid collapse in on themselves in a kicky-elastic heap.

So yeah, I have a job? XD I will really need to do my best to not say "oh screw the phone bills/gas money/car insurance/etc etc, I WANTS A NEW DOLLY." x_X;; Oh dear oh dear oh dear.

CURSE MY EXPENSIVE HOBBIES. T_T This is the worst yet. At least with Gothic Lolita stuff it was only ever $300 max for a dress, unless it came from Moitie or Alice Auaa (which I can't fit into anyways =P). These things? Oh man. And they're even less practical than GosuRori gear, which has a practicality rating of NEGATIVE 8 MILLION. x____X;;

I just hope I don't lose interest in the dolls like I've sorta lost interest in anime, J-Rock and - yes - GosuRori. I see it happening though. I'll find something else to obsess over, and I bet in a few years Lilly, Mickey, and all the rest will be gathering dust on a shelf.

So instead of paying attention to the last class of the semester when it doesn't matter because I've already handed in my term paper, I'll post my photos from the last Toronto meet I'll be attending for a while instead. D: Stupid moving nonsense and getting a job and visa issues... *sniffle*

Joy made Lilly stand, and she stayed standing for like, EVER. XD I was highly impressed. Lilly, Mickey, Masumi, Joy's boys, and LM's mini (don't know the name T_T).

The other side of the doll-pile - all of Finch's crew, plus... I think that's Isabeau? o_o; Chantrea and the mini on her lap were all adorably Christmas-y.

So I've spent the last few days sewing and making stuff instead of doing schoolwork, because school can suck it. =P Made two new outfits, although I can only bear to part with one because I really like the other. (The one I really liked I didn't photograph, because the lighting in this room is ass and it's been too overcast for the past week to get any good outdoor shots. -_-; ) I really need to get my sales/commission website running, but I'm just so bad about keeping up with stuff like that... maybe I'll just make another LJ for it. LJ I can totally handle. =P

Lilly's look has also changed - okay, not really, I just put in blue eyes. XD Tell me what you think.

Inspired by the gal style of Shibuya, this outfit is comprised of a white, strappy mini-dress with lace trim and a white, stretch-lace bolero with ribbon accents. Perfect for a fancy date in a high-rise restaurant - just make sure to order white wine. ^^v

I tried to do some city-scape shots because there are pretty skyscrapers out my window, but obviously I didn't try THAT hard. XD;; I want to ask at least $40 for this, because the dress gave me HELL (it looks simple, but don't be deceived!), but I'm willing to go down to $35. It's a two-piece set! Boleros are versatile! Gah. T_T

I need to make MSD stuff... but I feel dirty putting girl clothes on Mickey. I don't believe in the "dolls have souls" BS, but there's just something very wrong about Mickey in a dress. I think it's the character. Mickey the character only cross-dresses on special occasions, and only when he has quality help. He's a pants man.

I just suck at boy clothes so much... -_-; And the stuff I want to make I need an iron for, and I don't know where my roommate keeps the iron. -_-; I shouldn't have sent mine back home.

TDAF Halloween Party!

The Toronto Doll Association Forum (as we've apparently become known XD) had its first special event this past Saturday, October 28th. We had a Halloween Masquerade at Hart House in the Bickersteth Room that included junk food, pretty dollies, a costume contest, and good times all around. Both humans and dolls came dressed up, and although organizing and running it was hectic, I definitely had fun and hope we can pull off another one of these again. ^_^

Okay, so he's still not completely awesomely stellar, but Mickey has a newer, better face-up. At around 10:45 tonight I just started itching to try to paint him, and an hour and a half later, bam. :D Nicer eyebrows, something reminiscent of lower lashes, and something a lot less anime-tastic in general.

Still not factory/uber-face-up-star awesome, but good enough for now. I've been getting sick of having a poor eyebrow-less boy sitting around anyways. XD; (For the record, I wiped his other face-up and tried a few times again before I decided to just take a break for a bit and attempt it later. Looks like it worked. ^_^)

Speaking of clothes, I really can't decide on a style. That's the problem with head people - they have no style. -_-;; And every time I try to draw Mickey it's always in like... jeans and a T-shirt. 9_9 Or just a head shot. He wears anything from typical boy stuff (baggy pants and T-shirts) to all-out gothic aristocrat. I have about a million ideas for him, but nothing seems to be coming out of the sewing machine right. -_-;;

Ah well. At least I know what he's doing for Halloween. XD;

Fingers are crossed that the big Halloween meet goes well. @_@ I did the majority of my swap item tonight - will get costume contest prizes and such done within the week. Mickey (the Tender Too formerly known as Mr. T) arrived on time today while I was in class, and when I got back to the apartment my roommate was jumping at the bit for me to open the box and take out the doll. XD Boy was she surprised when out came a bald, naked, faceless little boy. But faceless and bald he no longer is! (Still working on the naked part. x_X; )

... I just realized I never announced getting this guy on this LJ. XD; My bad! So yeah, I got a Tender Too. :D He was known as "Mr. T" up until today, because I think naming a doll before it arrives jinxes it. Now he is Mickey, one of my head people from high school. (Don't ask about the head people. -_-; Just don't.) I did his face tonight mostly due to roommate pressure. XD (My roommate loves my dolls. It's so cute.) I'm okay with how it turned out, but I haven't sealed it yet. I'll do that tomorrow if I wake up and still like it. Feedback would be great. My main question:

Do his eyebrows look like poo?!? T____T I was going to do his face in black, but that always looks so weird, and should I ever decide to change his wig (I probably won't, but who knows), I don't want it to look weird.

Face-up is done in pastels, acrylics and prismacolours. Wig is from Elemental (writerzbloc, I believe? ^_^;).

His brows really are monstrous... -_-;; Yeah. Sleepy time now. Tomorrow Mickey gets pants, assuming sewing said pants won't get in the way of me finishing up a response paper. >_> For now he's sitting in Lilly's lap looking like he's up to something.

Says the roommate: "Lilly, she's really nice. This guy, he just looks... *pause* naughty." XDDDD

Oh Mickey. I think you and I will be getting along just fine. ^_^

Somehow, while discussing something related to "dead dolls" on a certain Forum That Must Not Be Named, CSI found its way into the conversation.

Now if there's two things I love, it's CSI and ball-joint dolls. So why not combine the two? My plot concept for the fic received demands to write, so I'm working on it. Here's the "opening scene," so to speak, before the opening and theme song start. (So the prologue? XD)

General remarks This fanfic will contain elements of the best and worst of the ABJD fandom - Volks elitism, people who truly believe their dolls contain souls, plagiarism accusations, online drama, doll-related internet forums, and characters based on well-known personalities in the doll community (all names and characters are fictional, so no crying libel and running for your intarwebz lawyer ^_^v). And, of course, since it's CSI, there has to be blood, gore, and Greg swabbing things in obscene places.

This fanfic takes place around Season 4, and definitely before Season 5, as I like Greg better as the quirky lab tech and am not incredibly fond of this Sofia character who has infiltrated the crime lab. Constructive criticism, etc, is welcome, but no flames please. CSI stories, characters, etc etc are all property of their respective owners. I'm just borrowing them out of love and geekdom.

On with the show!

Hello Dolly: Prologue
The scene that lay before Gil Grissom was pretty gruesome. Granted, he had seen worse, but this was pretty high on the gruesome charts. It would definitely remain a breakfast-time conversation for the next week or so.

Lying face down in the middle of the basement floor of the suburban Las Vegas townhouse was a middle-aged Caucasian female with short brown hair and a few extra pounds, dressed in a light blue sweatsuit. Her head had been bashed in by a blunt object, and her throat was slashed soon afterwards. Blood pooled out from underneath the body, forming a neat oval of brownish red on the stark gray concrete floor. Further inspection found a post-mortem contusion on her forehead as well, indicating that after she died she had been tossed unceremoniously onto the floor by the perpetrator.
Okay, so the body wasn’t really gruesome. Pretty normal, actually, for what Grissom was used to. The articles surrounding the body were what really created the atmosphere. Smaller, apparently plastic bodies and body parts surrounded the human corpse, some drenched in blood and broken, others still pristine aside from missing eyes or hair. Clutched in the victim’s hand was a gray aerosol spray can, the lid removed. Apparently it had been her only means of defense against the attacker.

Grissom felt an elbow jab him in the arm and he turned in its direction. Sarah Sidle was looking at him with confusion and bemusement, the corners of her mouth turning upwards in a sardonic smile. “Third one this week.”

Grissom’s expression remained unchanged. “Third one this week, and the only similarity is the dolls.”

“And this.” Sarah held up a small statuette of the Virgin Mary, a seemingly typical object that one would buy at a Christian gift store or Vatican souvenir shop. “Same size, colour, style, and inscription. ‘All Hail Mother SD.’” She raised an eyebrow, waiting for her boss’s reaction.

Instead of replying, Grissom knelt down next to one of the dolls that was still completely intact, although he was naked, bald, and without any face paint. “Well, none of the victims can talk anymore… maybe this little guy can speak for them.”

Sarah rolled her eyes and continued bagging the various doll parts surrounding the scene. Typical Grissom. Only this time, with those eerie glass eyes and perfectly carved little faces, it really did seem like the evidence would open their collective little mouths and start talking at any moment.

Short, yeah, but just want to get some feedback before I keep going. (And I still need to plot out the sequence of events, appearance of characters, etc.)

If it's out of your price range/a wrong size/etc at this point, I do have a lot of the heart fabric left and I will take commissions for more of these. ^_^ But the heart-motif lace is all gone, so I'd have to search for other lace. And stuff.

Today Lilly is wearing hot pink shorts, her bunny button cami, black socks and hot pink sneakers that used to be keychains purchased at Ardene's for $5. They fit PERFECTLY, even though they're both left feet. I might have to go buy her more various colours of faux-chucks. Oh, and she's wearing the blonde Alice wig done in pigtails with barettes and wearing the tote bag Hide bought her for the Toronto swap and is holding a Cinnamon beanbag, and sitting on that shelf staring at me going "you sew me more stuff."

Curse these damn manipulative creatures. And curse me for letting it get to my head. *wanders away muttering "just an inanimate object, don't go nuts, save the sanity..."*

Buy the dress, wut. =P

Lilly did not want to behave today, probably because I had her all dolled up (pun intended) in frillies and fluffies for a photoshoot in the hot sun. She kept falling, leaping, and generally not making the faces or whatever that I wanted to. Even so, I did manage to get precisely 100 shots of her in the pink Alice coordinate I've been slaving away over for the past three days, 38 of which turned out decent. ^_^ Yay!!

So anyways, I'm really tired so I'm just going to post photos. =P I'll link this entry to various forums, too. ALL PHOTOS ARE COPYRIGHT CALLIE SUMMERS/S.E.B./ETC ETC 2006 AD NAUSEUM. So now Miss Lilly is happily seated on my pillows with her bottle of Smirnoff dressed in low-rider Gackt pants by Elemental, her "It Is A Mystery" shirt, and a black and caramel brown mix fur wig by Chibi. She really does look a lot happier. XD;; I bought my doll to be the most darling little Lolita, and it turns out she's just a lazy slob who likes primping for the camera but would rather be sitting around watching television.

... talk about projecting one's personality onto an inanimate object. XD I LOVES MY DOLLY!!

(Oh, sorry no pics from the August 4th meet - my camera ate them. T_________T But the meet was ridiculously fun and Lilly has yet another boyfriend or two or three. XD Lots of photos over on the forums, though! I'm too tired to link. =P )

I've been sitting here cuddling Lilly and watching TV/surfing the web for over an hour now. It's so nice just posing her and petting her hair and admiring how generally gorgeous and awesome she is.

I don't get why some people seem to think that dolls are only for photographing and flinging about on the internet, and are pointless without the fandom. I mean, sharing them and talking about them is fun, but so is just hanging out with the doll.

As weird as that sounds. >_>; Although seeing as I did this same thing when I was a kid with my American Girl dolls, it's not really that weird. I just happen to be 12 years older than before. >_<;;

Who the hell cares if you own a popular mold, or how many people read your photostories, or how much attention you and your dolls get? If you can't just sit there and enjoy your time with your toys, what's the point?

I love love love my darling Lilly. <3 The fandom, the friends I've made, and the skills I've developed are really just kick-ass side-effects of doll ownership.

I think I'll hold onto her while I work on my essay for Thursday. I need all the help I can get. =_=
